As EVs become commonplace pressure is applied on our electricity networks–increasing the risk of network overload and potential electricity outages. Our technology helps prevent this–protecting our homes, networks and neighbourhoods by shifting loads to off-peak times, and minising the operating costs of the power networks.
Currently, peak electricity demand is commonly met through non-renewable “Peaker Plants”—which does not come from sustainably sourced electricity. That’s why we believe it is essential to reduce demand at peak times to minimise use of fossil fuel electricity generation. We want more people and businesses to get on board with EV usage–and we want to find ways to make that transition (and decision) easy. We figure a great place to start is by reducing costs! Electricity prices differ markedly between peak demand and off-peak periods, so our industry-leading Time of Use optimisation software automates EV charging times to take account of (and advantage of!) off-peak times and savings.
Our optimisation algorithms move charger peak loads around to minimise costs to vehicle drivers, charger operators and electricity distribution businesses. This works best when charging doesn’t need to be as fast as possible–such as when you can leave your car overnight.
“Time of Use” (ToU) pricing rewards consumer and commercial behaviour with lower charges for using power outside of times when the network is busy (those “peak periods” during evenings and mornings).
Because all charging times are not created equal.
In fact, if consumers use power off-peak wherever possible to charge their electric vehicle, then they could charge their EV for 30% less and maximise ROI on their EV by keeping operational costs to a minimum.
The problem is, it’s natural to come home at 6pm and plug in to charge. Ordinary EV chargers simply plug and go. And without intelligent charger optimisation software like ours, you have no easy way to control your power usage.
